Cabo Delgado
The Quirimbas Archipelago — thirty-odd coral islands, mangrove channels and the Swahili stone town of Ibo.
Cabo Delgado holds the Quirimbas: a chain of coral islands strung along the far northern coast, protected in part by a national park that covers both marine and mainland habitats. Ibo Island is the historic heart, a Swahili-Portuguese trading town of coral-stone buildings, silversmiths and three fortresses. Pemba sits on one of the world's largest natural bays, with reefs that begin metres from the shore. Parts of the province have been affected by insecurity in recent years — always check current official travel advice before planning.
