Tete

The Zambezi corridor: Cahora Bassa's inland sea, dramatic baobab country and river landscapes.

Tete straddles the Zambezi in the hot interior, where baobabs stand over red earth and the river cuts a broad line across the province. Cahora Bassa, one of Africa's largest reservoirs, spreads west of the city — a long inland sea known for tiger fishing and for immense, empty horizons. The Samora Machel suspension bridge over the Zambezi at Tete has been the crossing point on the trade route to Malawi and Zambia for generations.
