Chimoio

Highland provincial capital below the Cabeça do Velho rock — the base for Chimanimani and Manica.

Chimoio sits at around 750 m on the corridor between Beira and Zimbabwe, which gives it a noticeably milder climate than the coast. The city is best known for Cabeça do Velho, a granite dome on its edge whose profile resembles the face of an old man lying down; a short climb gives a view over the whole plateau.

Most travellers use Chimoio as a supply and transfer point for Chimanimani, Manica town and the Penhalonga valley, but the market and the surrounding farmland are worth an afternoon.
