Mozambique's cities are worth time in their own right. Maputo mixes Art Deco, Portuguese colonial and bold post-independence modernism, with a nightlife built on live music and grilled seafood. Beira has a striking, weathered modernist centre — including the Grande Hotel and the Cine-Teatro — and a port that has shaped central Mozambique for a century. Both cities are best explored slowly and on foot.
