Nacala

A deep natural harbour with clear water and reefs that divers rate among the best in the country.

Nacala has one of the deepest natural harbours on the East African coast, and the same geography that made it a port makes it good for diving: clear water, steep drop-offs and reefs close to shore. Fernão Veloso bay, just north of the town, has a string of quiet beaches and small lodges.

The town itself is industrial and functional, but the coastline around it — including Chocas-Mar and the Mossuril peninsula to the south — is one of the most attractive and least visited parts of northern Mozambique.
